Obituary for Elizabeth A. Green (Sweet)

Gaffney -- Elizabeth A. "Betty" Green, 100, of 164 Worthmore Drive, peacefully went to sleep while surrounded by her family on Monday, November 6th, 2017, at her home.

For over 35 years, Betty worked with her husband, Otto, on their farm in French Creek, NY. In 1971, they sold their farm and moved to Gaffney, SC, where she continued to work until her retirement. She enjoyed many things such as being with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren. She loved camping with her family and playing the piano. Betty was a devoted wife. When her husband became ill with Alzheimer’s disease, she took care of him until his death in 2000.

Betty had a deep love for Jehovah and took every opportunity she could to share the good news with everyone she met. When door to door ministry was difficult because of health, Betty kept literature on hand to witness to whomever visited her. For many years, she enjoyed the privilege of having the congregation book study in her home. Betty always attended her meetings either in person or on the phone, preparing in advance so she could participate and sing the songs while she listened on the phone. Mrs. Green even learned to use a tablet so she could read the daily text.

Surviving Mrs. Green are two sons, Rick Green and wife, Sandi, of Gaffney and Bobby Green and wife, Patty, of Cowpens; two sisters, Clarabelle Burdick and Maryannette Bowen; a sister-in-law, Betty Sweet; six grandchildren, Brian Green and wife, April, Chad Green, Christy Boling, Eric Green and wife, Angela, Todd Green, and Brittany Green Ellis; four step-grandchildren, Eric Williams and wife, Allison, Regina Rohrmoser and husband, Collin, Nathan Williams and wife, Nancy, and Shaun Williams and wife, Hilary; and twenty beloved great-grandchildren. Betty had a special friendship with Ramona Mirales, John, and Judy Blackwell. They were very important to her and she loved them dearly. The family appreciates the love, kindness and support that they have given to Betty over the years.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Green was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Green, and numerous brothers and sisters.

A memorial service for Mrs. Green will be held Saturday, November 18th, 2017 at 2pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 145 Twin Bridge Road, Gaffney.

The family will be at their respective homes.

When Betty was in the hospital a nurse ask her “What is the secret to living to 100 yrs old?” Betty answered with a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face, “ Good, Clean Living!”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 145 Twin Bridge Rd, Gaffney, SC 29341, to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342, or to Interim HealthCare Hospice, 16 Hyland Rd, Greenville, SC 29615.
